The RLK Approach to Success
* Our approach starts with a diagnostic SAT that allows us to pinpoint your
strengths and weaknesses and from this we derive a study strategy tailored
to your needs.
* RLK's classes give you the knowledge and the strategies to guarantee success.
If, for example, you are stuck on a geometry problem our math strategies will
help you to eliminate "bogus" choices and let you take an "educated guess"
among the remaining choices.
* Our home study materials strengthen those classroom strategies and concepts
enabling you to gain the confidence to succeed. Our math and verbal homework
books contain many questions and problems, which are all discussed and explained
in the classroom.
* RLK provides diagnostic and post-testing with SATs so you get to hone your
skills under timed test conditions, getting you ready for the real thing.
Why is RLK the answer to your SAT problems?
Our SAT program is unique, one you will not find at any other test preparation firm.
* Small Class Size
Unlike other test prep classes that squeeze as many as 25 or 30 students into
a class, our maximum class size is 17 students, with an average class of
about 9 students. This restriction in size allows us to give our students
the personalized attention that makes all the difference.
* The Greatest Instructors
The best teachers are lively and exciting, explaining concepts and strategies
clearly. Our teachers have these qualification and they are experts at teaching
RLK's methods. We select our teachers carefully to ensure that they have
the talents to teach according to our demanding standards. In fact, they
must also have high SAT scores in order to qualify for our teaching positions.
* Convenient Locations and Scheduling
RLK offers its programs at many accessible locations throughout the Washington
/ Baltimore metropolitan area. Our scheduling allows students to take our
programs on Saturdays or Sundays and our make-ups during the week.
* Repeating the Program at No Charge
A student may unconditionally repeat our SAT1 program, at no charge, for any
reason. For example, a student scores 1250 on his or her pre-test, and 1500
on the post-test, an improvement of 150 points. However, this particular
student needs to raise his or her score to 1600 to apply to certain colleges.
This student may retake our SAT1 program in order to reach his or her goal.
The New SAT
RLK's Revised Curriculum For the New SAT
- The current version of the SAT was administered for the first time on March 12, 2005 with significant changes in the test format and content.
- Along with the math and verbal sections, a third component to the test, the writing portion has been added. This portion consists of a 25 minute essay. Additionally, multiple choice questions dealing with grammar, sentence improvements and paragraph reconstructions complete the writing section.
- The verbal portion of the SAT has been modified. The analogies questions have been eliminated while the reading comprehension and sentence completion questions have been increased.
- The math portion of the SAT has been amended by the addition of approximately 5 questions drawn from topics in Algebra II, and by the elimination of the quantitative comparison questions.
- In summary, the new SAT emphasizes the 3 "R's", Reading, (W)riting and (A)rithmatic, in a balanced approach that measures the basic skills necessary for success in college.
Preparing Students
for the SAT
RLK was founded to prevent students from having to live with unsatisfactory SAT scores. Scores on standardized tests like the SAT can and do improve with the help of an organized, structured study program such as the RLK prep course. Our program is two dimensional:
- The first dimension is content-oriented. By reviewing the fundamentals of algebra, geometry, and math word problems, in multiple-choice format, we strengthen our students' knowledge foundation for the SAT's math portion. Additionally, we expand our students' word power through our vocabulary and etymon lists, available in flash card format. With this, we strengthen our students' knowledge foundation for the SAT's verbal portion.
- The second dimension is strategy-oriented. We teach the short-cuts, tricks, and tips that solve math and verbal problems in a time-effective, efficient way. We also teach elimination techniques that help students make educated guesses when they are at a loss solving a problem or answering a question, but have some general knowledge of the problem. These strategies are applicable both in the math and verbal portions of the test.
Cartoon Flash Cards for Vocabulary, Roots, and Prefixes
Our SAT flash cards are provided to you as part of the resource package for the verbal portion of our SAT program. These cards are a valuable tool that will expand your word power. There are cards for roots, prefixes and vocabulary words. Each card has a special cartoon to help you remember that mystery word or that puzzling prefix. Shown here is the front of the flash card. The back of the card contains the definitions.
