PSAT:
The Pre-Scholastic Assessment Test
Why Take a PSAT Prep Class?
Because the PSAT also serves as the qualifying examination
for the National Merit Scholarship program, preparation for this
test is as important to some students as preparation for the SAT
has been for most students. The PSAT qualifying index will be
some value in the range from 60 through 240, and is determined
by adding together the math score, the verbal score, and the writing
skills score.
Beginning in the fall of 1997, a writing skills section was added to the PSAT. The new composition of the PSAT is as follows:
- Math: 2 sections: 25 minutes each
- Verbal: 2 sections: 25 minutes each
- Writing Skills: 1 section: 30 minutes.
The total time for the new PSAT is 2 hours and 10 minutes. The writing skills section is in multiple choice form.
As an added incentive for students to begin their preparation with the PSAT program, registration for this program automatically entitles students to register for any of our SAT programs at no additional charge.
