Competitor's Comparison

Why RLK and not some national test prep company?

We are a local test preparation company that serves the Washington / Baltimore metropolitan area. Our only mission is to develop meaningful test preparation programs. The national test preparation companies such as Kaplan and The Princeton Review are subsidiaries of The Washington Post and Random House respectively. Both are Fortune 500 corporations that have diverse goals and objectives. While the financial benefits of these companies are obvious, the liabilities to you, the consumer, are significant. Overhead costs and corporate bureaucracy within these companies force the costs of their programs to rise substantially. Consequently, Kaplan's and The Princeton Review's tuition costs are 44% higher than our tuition. Are their programs 44% better than ours? Of course not!! But you are expected to pay for the privilege of some national affiliation that has nothing to do with a quality SAT preparation program.

What about RLK's withdrawal policy compared to Kaplan's and The Princeton Review's?

While our withdrawal policy returns 2/3 of your tuition if you decide to withdraw at the 2/5 point of the program, Kaplan returns only 43% at the 1/3 point and The Princeton Review will return only 51% at this point.

What about RLK's policy regarding free repeats of their programs compared to Kaplan's and The Princeton Review's?

While our policy allows students to repeat our entire program at no cost for any reason, Kaplan requires an administrative fee for repeating theirs, and The Princeton Review offers a limited scaled-down "refresher" course to those students whose scores have not risen by at least 100 points.

What about RLK's refund policy if there is no score improvement compared to Kaplan's and The Princeton Review's?

While our refund policy returns all of your tuition after repeating our program with no score improvement (except for the $195 non-refundable deposit), Kaplan refunds nothing if your score rises by 10 points or more. The Princeton Review returns nothing, whether o not your score falls, stays the same, or rises partially.

What about RLK's convenience of schedule compared to Kaplan's and The Princeton Review's?

While our class schedule permits you to attend one day each week, Kaplan requires you to attend one or two days each week. The Princeton Review requires you attend three days each week.

What about RLK's convenience of location compared to Kaplan's and The Princeton Review's?

While our locations are conveniently situated in many communities in the Washington / Baltimore metropolitan area (14 locations in suburban Maryland and 7 locations in Northern Virginia), Kaplan concentrated its programs at its two suburban centers in Northern Virginia and suburban Maryland with a smattering of community locations here and there. The Princeton Review offers its programs in 15 or 16 locations in both suburban Maryland and Northern Virginia.
